JJ72

If you have yet to catch on to the wonder that is JJ72, then make sure you do not keep yourself in the dark any longer! This Dublin-based three-piece have that rare magic that keeps you enthralled throughout the whole of their set. The lead singer has one of the most achingly beautiful voices around, as well as a look that makes you feel fixated. Bassist Hillary is beautiful, and cool as a cucumber, and looks as though she was born with a bass guitar strapped to her. As for the drummer - well, I could have quite happily watched him throughout the whole set - singing along to every song despite the fact he didn’t have a microphone, this is a man who is putting his entire heart and soul into what he is playing.

So they look the part for starters, but what really matters is the way they come together when they play live. They have some wonderful songs, which is always obviously important, but it is the way in which they perform them that really places them above other new bands.

Singles October Swimmers and Snow were gorgeous, despite a guitar string being broken towards the end of Snow - they simply changed guitars and went straight into another fantastic song. Forthcoming single Oxygen went down brilliantly, as did every other song, including a beautiful acoustic.

For such a young band - averaging around 19 - JJ72 should be patting themselves on the back right now. If recent gigs are anything to go by, they have a great future ahead of them.
