Hi everyone,
Here's the latest JJ72.
October Swimmer
JJ72 will release their next single entitled "October Swimmer" on
Monday,
23rd October. The Irish date is set for the following Friday, 27th October.
"October" Swimmer will be made available on two CDs and a 7². CD1 and
the
7² feature the title track, new song ³Guidance² and a cover of Nick Drake¹s
³Black Eyed Dog². CD2, meanwhile, features ³October Swimmer², new track
³Bloodtests² and a live recording of ³Bumblebee² from the 100 Club.
October Swimmer Competition
To mark the release of the new single we are running a new competition. We
have 20 copies of the original version of October Swimmer to give away.
These copies are very rare and are no longer readily available at the usual
outlets. To enter the competition answer the following:
What are the 1st two lines of 'Guidance' and 'Blood Tests' the two B-sides
to 'October Swimmer'. Please send your emails headed 'October Swimmer

Q Awards Competition
In the run up to the Q Awards for which JJ72 have been nominated "Best
Newcomer", (alongside Coldplay, Muse, Badly Drawn Boy & Dove) the band
will
be performing at Dublin Castle Camden as part of an exclusive Q magazine
dayshow on Sunday 29th October.
We have 10 pair of tickets to give away for the event. To enter the draw
simply send us an e-mail at jj72@lakotarecords.com with your postal address.
All winners will be notified by e-mail mid week.
One song from the gig will be broadcast as part of the Q Awards coverage on
Channel 4 on 11th November at 11.30pm. Full coverage of the event will be
included in Q's upcoming January edition out 1st December.

SINGLE & TOUR
'October Swimmer' will be re-released on October 23rd, on 2 CDs and
7". Likely b-sides include new tracks 'Guidance' and 'Blood
Tests,' a cover of Nick Drake's 'Black Eyed Dog' and either one or two live
tracks, likely to be Algeria and/or Snow.
Further changes to the tour schedule: the Glasgow and Manchester gigs have been
upgraded to the Garage and the Uni respectively. Thirteen:13 have also
announced themselves as another tour support, although which dates they and
Crashland are playing is a little unclear at the moment. I saw these guys
earlier this year with Ooberman and they were OK if a little bland. Two of
them used to be in the Ash/ boyband hybrid known as Catch (remember 'Bingo'?
thought not) which gives them a little novelty value.

TOUR SUPPORT ANNOUNCED
Support for the upcoming UK tour will be Crashland. A reasonably decent, energetic 3 piece, Crashland's early material such as the excellent Standard Love Affair EP drew comparisons with Supergrass. Their recent output has been a little disappointing but they should still provide a spot of light entertainment while you consume your alcoholic beverages in preparation for the main event!

SEXIEST WOMAN IN ROCK!!
Obviously we all knew this already, but Hils is now officially the sexiest woman in rock!!! Melody Maker's poll proved it!! Anyway, she beat Cerys Catatonia into second with Britney coming in a lowly 13th. This sparked an amusing article in the Daily Mail: headline "Hillary who? The sexiest woman in rock, that's who!" Well, it made me laugh anyway. Lovely piccy in there too... Not sure where Mark came in the blokes poll but the top 3 was the usual all Welsh affair. Boring.

EXTRA TOUR DATES
Three more dates to add to the list: Firstly, an extra London date has
been added for Friday October 20th, again at ULU. The 19th gig has now sold
out. Secondly, JJ72 play Cardiff University as support to
Coldplay as part of Radio 1 Music Live 2000 on Wednesday October 25th.
Finally, the band are supporting Muse at the Dublin Olympia Theatre on
Monday October 30th. See Tour Dates section

BITS AND PIECES
An excellent interview from www.gutted.org.uk
has produced several new snippets of news. The October Swimmer
re-release looks on for October as mentioned before. The songs for the
second album are 'totally finished' yet there seems to be no rush
whatsoever to release it. A fifth single in Jan/Feb 2001
looks likely with 'Algeria' as Mark's favourite although apparently he wants to
release the lot! No word of 'Undercover Angel' as a single: madness I tell
you!! Something also mentioned about an upcoming Scandinavian tour
and maybe this 5-track European EP might eventually surface too (!)

ALBUM CHART
'JJ72' debuted at a fairly respectable #16 in the UK album chart
today. If memory serves me right that's the same position as Idlewild achieved
with their third album, so promising signs all around really...
