LEEDS AND ALL THAT

Right so I'm back from Leeds and ready to get back to updating the site. An amazing weekend saw JJ72 perform a storming set to a packed 2nd stage, before most people had woken up!! The main stage screens were taken over by the Oxygen video all weekend, seemingly never off them! Some of the more interesting showings came immediately after Slipknot (!) and 3 times in a row before Beck! In other news, Oxygen dropped out of the top 40 in its second week of release, the band pulled out of their warm up gig with Pulp for an unknown reason... and the album was released yesterday!! How good is it!!! I say easily the best debut album since 'Suede,' if not even better. Stunning.

NEW JJ72 FANZINE

Chris (Chrispy off our message board) is setting up a JJ72-based fanzine. I think this will be the first of its kind so it should be worth a look. If you would like to contribute anything (it doesn't have to be to do with JJ72) get in touch with him at stophie_uk@yahoo.co.uk. Chris has also set up a new JJ72 website - 'Oxygen' - which looks pretty good so check out the links section for that.

Hi all,

Hilary here. Just a short note to say thanks a million to everybody for
their continuing support and interest and yes we're very chuffed about
getting the chart position. Means we get to play Top of The Pops on Friday
which can't be all bad!

Mark and Fergal are both suitably happy about the whole thing and asked me
to send on their thanks to everyone. I don't know if we'll get some guitar
smashing action going for Friday but here's hoping!

We're sifting through your emails slowly but surely so we will get round to
answering all of them, i promise!

MAILER [MINOR UPDATES]

-- Hi everyone,

First off you have probably noticed that our update was a bit slow in
getting out to all of you. Apologies to everyone but as you can guess it has
been a bit busy down our end what with the release of the single and all
that.

OXYGEN
Oxygen was released on Monday. The mid week chart position is currently
number15 and we're hoping to end somewhere between the 20 and 25 mark by
Sunday. So a big thank you from the band to all you people out there that
went and bought the single! Much appreciated!

ALBUM
The album is released on the 28th in the UK and on the 1st in Ireland. You
can get hold of track listings and lyrics from the official JJ72 website at
www.jj72.com.

CHANNEL 4
Channel 4 broadcast the JJ72 Barfly Session JJ72 next Wednesday (23rd
August) at 12.45am.

COMPETITION NO2
The competition is still running so for the benefit of those of you who
didn't receive our last mail-out here are the details - it is only open to
people on this mailing list. We have 35 limited edition 12" copies of Oxygen
on offer. Side A has 'Oxygen' on it whilst the flipside is 'Algeria'. These
are extremely rare as only 300 were manufactured to be used by DJs in
clubs. To enter the competition just answer the following : what are the
2nd two lines of 'Desertion' and 'Astoria' the two b-sides on the
forthcoming 'Oxygen' single. Please send your emails headed competition no2

WITNESS FESTIVAL IRELAND
There is a webcast feature available of the band playing at the festival at
http://www.doneanddusted.com. Highlights of the gig will be broadcast on MTV
UK in the near future including an interview with the band. This will also
go out on MTV Europe.

OXYGEN: EARLY SIGNS

...are very very good!! Dotmusic.com suggests "Indie hopefuls" JJ72 are looking at #13 based on first day sales. Worldpop.com predicts top 20. This could change, especially as sales of pop singles are higher on Saturdays, and "Indie" singles usually peak on Monday due to fanatics wanting everything as soon as it comes out (hmm....). But still, top 20 looks almost certain!

Yes indeed Oxygen is out today, so sell your Gran and buy 4000 copies each so it beats off Britney, Posh and that ex-Audience bird to the number one it rightly deserves!! Actually, just go and buy it once and keep your fingers crossed that it makes the chart this time. If you have to buy just one CD go for CD2 as Desertion is better than Astoria and the live LWS is ace.

BITS AND PIECES

First of all, there's been a lot of discussion about Mark's girlfriend lately. As most of you know (well, since the Select interview anyway) Mark is dating Catherine Woods, Hilary's twin sister. Most of the songs on 'JJ72,' notably 'Undercover Angel,' were written about Catherine. Catherine is also a model, and as some importance on her own. So Click here to see a picture of Catherine and read a short interview from an Irish magazine.

Secondly, if you've been looking at the tour dates below, be aware that they are one day out, for example the 19th of October is a Thursday not a Friday, the 28th a Saturday not a Sunday. Tsk!

Radio One Roadshow
JJ72 will be playing on One Big Sunday at Ipswich on Sunday 13th for the
Radio One Road Show.

Witness Festival Ireland
The band just played a great gig at the Witness Festival in Dublin on
Sunday. You can catch a webcast feature at http://www.doneanddusted.com.
Highlights of the gig will be broadcast on MTV UK in the near future
including an interview with the band. This will also go out on MTV Europe.

The site also allows you to vote for JJ72 on their Buzz Chart. Last time
round we managed second place with Bush just managing to slip into the lead.

JJ72 play London ULU on October 19th. It is not yet known whether this is another Londonite-exclusive one off or part of a proper tour. Suspect former. Arse.

DINGWALLS...

All reports suggest the lucky sods who went enjoyed themselves and, all in all, it was a typically fantastic gig. NME reports that loads of celebs were in the audience: James Dean Bradfield, Simon Gilbert (Suede drummer), Graham Coxon and Ian Broudie all spotted. The article also suggests that this will be 'probably the last time anyone will get the chance to see the band at such close quarters.'

A full UK tour is on the way in the Autumn to promote the album.

The Barfly Sessions program starts at 1am on August 23rd, Channel 4. It's the start of a 12-week run which will feature JJ72 in one episode (their gig, with Clinic and the Delgados, is being filmed today in Leeds).

ALBUM CONFIRMATION, PULP SUPPORT

JJ72's debut album will be released on August 28th. Titled, imaginatively enough, 'JJ72,' it will be available on CD and vinyl formats.

The opening band for JJ72's support of Pulp at T on the Fringe on August 24th will be Clearlake.

T at the Fringe
JJ72 have been asked to appear as special guests for PULP at Edinburgh Corn
Exchange on August 24th.

Features
Select, NME and Melody Maker, are all running features on the band.

Internet
The www.nme.com webcast of the Dingwalls Show in London on August 2nd will
go live on August 3rd. There are some major features on the band here

The support at Dingwalls is a band called 'Tenner'- nope, me neither. That gig has now sold out. The band are also playing Leeds Cockpit on August 3rd as part of a thing called The Barfly Sessions- more later.

JJ72 recently did a session for Radio 1. Unfortunately I was on holiday and missed the broadcast... so if anyone has it taped email me!!! The tracklisting was apparently: October Swimmer, Oxygen, Algeria, Depression (Desertion?) [ NB This was in fact a live set for Lamacq Live and not a session.]
An XFM session also went out on July19th with an interview and acoustic versions of 'Snow' and 'October Swimmer.' Again, tapes anyone?!?
